Luxury Car Rentals Chicago and the Chicago Blackhawks

Before taking your Chicago car rental to see the Chicago Blackhawks, read up on some interesting facts about this professional Illinois based hockey team! The Blackhawks were founded in 1926 by Frederic McLaughlin. It was one of the original 6 NHL teams along with Boston Bruins, Montreal Canadians, Toronto maple Leafs, New York Rangers, and the Detroit Red Wings. They originally played in the Chicago Stadium until 1994 where they moved to the United Center. The team plays in the Central Division of the NHL and has won 3 Stanley Cup championships and 13 division titles since its foundation. However, they have not won a Stanley Cup since 1961!

Origins of the "Chicago Blackhawks" name

How did the name "Chicago Blackhawks" come about? The team was owned by Frederic McLaughlin whom was a Native American and according to the history of Illinois; Chief Black Hawk was a prominent figure back then. The name was originally spelled the "Chicago Black Hawks" until it was changed during the 1986-87 season to "Chicago Blackhawks." In fact, this is just one of the many sports team names in Chicago that used Native Americans as icons!

Measurements of the Chicago Stadium

Like the United Centre where the Chicago Blackhawks play today, the Chicago Stadium also had a state-of-the-art architecture. It boasted a 37,000 square foot main floor, a 185 foot ice surface with over 16,600 seats! The Blackhawks played their first game on December 15th, 1929 all the way until 1994.

Great Records

There are many records achieved by notable players for the Chicago Blackhawks. Bobby Hull was one of them. In the 1968 to 1969 season, he scored 58 goals - the most in a season! Denis Savard has made two records. He scored the most assists in a season in 1981 to 1982 and 1987 to 1988 - a total of 87 assists. He also had the most points (131) in one season (1987 to 1988)! Last but definitely not least, Ed Becfour broke the record of the most wins by scoring 43 wins in a single season. You never know when you'll see history being made at a Blackhawks game - take your Chicago car rental to see a game!

Team Mascot

Who's that huge bird that makes people laugh with its dancing antics during every Blackhawk game? It's Tommy Hawk - the team mascot! Did you know that he was previously a star performer for Barnum and Bailey Circus? Tommy is also available for personal visits at Blackhawk games. You can invite Tommy to stop by your seat/suite on a "Tommy Hawk Walk" and deliver you a special gift bag that includes a Tommy Hawk bobble head doll. You even get to pose with him for an 8x10 photo!
